NOW IS THE TIME TO STEP AHEAD - LET THE SUN PROTECTION BE SAFE NOT ONLY TO US, BUT ALSO TO OUR ENVIRONMENT.

We consciously decide to use only creams with natural filters in Slovenia, because they are also environmentally friendly and do not destroy our biotope! Thus, our swimming in lakes, rivers, spas, wellness centers, the sea, etc. will not leave lasting negative consequences for our environment.

Together on the road, together in life, together on the planet.

My skin, my life, my planet.

The words written above are the slogan of the “ON THE SUNNY SIDE OF THE ALPS ” project and a guide to raising awareness that we need to stand together and change our attitude towards ourselves, the environment in which we live and our entire planet. FAQ - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

What do the UVA and UVB labels on the packaging mean?

The labels were introduced in 2006 on the recommendation of the EU. For a more balanced protection against UV rays, sunscreens must not only protect against UVB rays, but also offer protection against long-wave UVA rays. In fact, the protection should be in a 1: 3 ratio with respect to the UVB protection factor. So sunscreen with a sun protection factor (ZF) of 30 must have a UVA protection factor of 10. Products that comply with this recommendation may be labeled with the UVA logo.

What is the difference between mineral and synthetic sunscreen?

Synthetic protection:

  • Synthetic UV filters must be absorbed by the skin for 20 to 30 minutes before they take effect.
  • UV rays penetrate the skin and are converted into heat. This process uses a synthetic UV filter, which leaves behind, among other things, hormonal active ingredients. This can cause allergies and intolerances.
  • Synthetic protection has already caused damage to the seas and coral reefs, as well as marine flora and fauna, so the use of sunscreen has been banned in many diving areas.
  • Possible synthetic UV filters: octocrylene or ethyl methoxysinamate, benzophenone-3, 2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone and benzophenone-4

Mineral sun protection:

  • Mineral sunscreen starts working immediately after application.
  • They contain mineral dyes that, when applied to the skin, reflect harmful UV rays from it like small mirrors. This means that UV rays do not penetrate the skin.
  • They do not pose any danger to coral reefs, aquatic organisms or waters. The use of mineral sunscreen is also allowed in diving areas.
  • Titanium dioxide and natural uncoated zinc oxide are mainly used as UV filters.

What is the time in which the skin is able to protect itself?

Our skin can protect itself from UV radiation only for a certain time. This time varies from individual to individual and depends on skin type and other natural dispositions.

Light skin, eyes and hair, freckles instead of tan: less than ten minutes.
Light skin that browns very slowly: 10 - 20 minutes.
Medium light skin that browns slowly: 20-30 minutes.
Brown to olive skin that browns quickly: up to 30 minutes.

How long you can stay in the sun is determined by how long your skin can defend itself from the sun and by the sun protection factor of your sunscreen.

Example: Skin with self-protection time 10 minutes ZF (self-protection factor) 30 = 300 minutes of sun exposure without the risk of sunburn.

This is true in ideal circumstances. However, never stay in the sun until the last minute (see UV index, for example on a weather phone app). For sensitive and baby skin, we advise you to choose a higher ZF. At noon, stay in the shade and drink plenty of fluids.

Do Ekolife Natura sunscreen products contain nanomaterial (particles smaller than 100nm)?

No, we do not use nanomaterial in our sunscreen products. The use of nanomaterial must be clearly marked with the word NANO in the list of ingredients.

Mineral protection due to titanium dioxide and natural zinc oxide whitens the skin. In order to avoid this side effect, our mineral dyes are treated with quality ingredients so that the dye content is evenly distributed. This ensures the best possible distribution for the best possible protection. We do not use nanomaterials.

Are Ekolife Natura sunscreen products waterproof even though they do not contain chemicals ?

Water resistance is achieved with the help of vegetable oils and emulsifiers. The use of synthetic polymers is not required.

Are Ekolife Natura sunscreen products biodegradable and safe for coral reefs?

YES, Ekolife Natura sunscreen products are biodegradable and pose no danger to reefs, aquatic organisms, or waters.

How can Ekolife Natura sunscreen products be removed from the skin?

Our sunscreens are best removed from the skin with warm water, shower gel and a soft terry cloth or sponge. “Mechanical” cleansing gently removes mineral dyes from the skin.

How to remove product stains from clothes?

In case stains occur on clothes, they can be removed with a stain remover. Sunscreen stains should be addressed quickly, as if they were greasy stains.

Why are there special sunscreens for babies and children ?

Sunscreen products for the skin of babies and children should be specially adapted to their delicate and sensitive skin. Thus, Ekolife Natura sunscreen for babies and children does not contain alcohol. It also does not contain other irritating ingredients e.g. aggressive fragrances containing unnecessary allergens. The product has many positive properties (water resistance, biodegradability, organic ingredients), but the most important are nutritious oils and extracts, consistently high quality and product safety.

Why does the INCI list say that Ekolife Natura sunscreen products contain fragrances ?

The products actually contain essential oils, which, however, must be listed as fragrances in accordance with the legislation on the INCI list. We do not use any synthetic fragrances!

How do I properly apply Ekolife Natura sunscreen products?

Our sunscreens are waterproof. Apply them thickly and always rub them well into the skin until the last white traces also disappear. Then the natural dyes will lie flat on the surface of the skin and best reflect UV rays. However, if you wipe your skin with a towel after bathing, the remnants of the ointment may remain on the towel. In this case, you need to re-lubricate just in case. Also, the ointment can be wiped off the skin when children play and come in contact with sand or grass on the playground. Therefore, you need to be especially careful and diligently lubricate children when they play.
